Gustavus Man pleads guilty to DUI
Anchorage, Alaska – U.S. Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that a Gustavus man plead guilty to a July 29, 2012, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge committed at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve.
John Olivit, 51, of Gustavus, Alaska, was arraigned and pled guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leslie C. Longenbaugh on the sole charge of DUI, contained in a one-count information.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack S. Schmidt, who prosecuted the case, indicated the defendant was contacted inside Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve by a U.S. Park Ranger Law Enforcement Officer who found John Olivit recovering from a motorcycle accident. The officer noticed Olivit was unsteady on his feet and appeared to exhibit signs of intoxication. Olivit submitted to field sobriety tests and failed to perform them satisfactorily. Olivit was subsequently arrested and provided a breath sample which resulted in a Breath Alcohol Content (BAC) of .205.
The United States Park Service Law Enforcement conducted the investigation leading to the arrest and conviction in this case.
